Farm Loan Waivers: A Bandage On The Wound, But Not The Cure

After Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the Congress-led government in Rajasthan has announced a waiver of short-term loans taken by farmers from cooperative banks and loans of upto Rs 2 lakh from other banks. Farm loan waivers have been much talked about in the year gone by. Debates and protests have ensued regarding it. So what are these and what are the problems and viable solutions for them?​
